World Diabetes Day in no doubt offers a great opportunity to alert the public that the scourge of diabetes is attaining a dangerous dimension in the country as many people can no longer afford their medications and routines to effectively control their condition.
“Children living with diabetes most of whom must be on regular insulin injections are also badly affected by the situation as many parents either reduce doses or stop administering injections as the cost of insulin, a vital component of diabetes management has risen by over 40 per cent in the last six months. A vial of insulin now costs between N6,000 and N12,000 in different parts of the country.”
On these two days, we sensitize over 200 individuals and we hand medications to them, our medical team also prescribe medication or advice some of the beneficiaries to see a doctor as soon as possible where the case is critical.
We work round the clock to increase access to quality education for marginalized children, orphans, and particularly adolescent girls living in fragile and insecurity-affected settings. Our programs provide tailored solutions to students facing multiple barriers to education to acquire relevant skills, creating opportunities for positive transitions to secondary school and dignified livelihoods. Our integrated approach is based on extensive research on what works to increase marginalized girls’ learning outcomes, retention, and wellbeing. We put girls at the center of our programs and build a supportive environment for them in the community and at school. At the individual level, FTVF helps girls develop their academic competencies alongside leadership and life skills, raising their confidence and voices. At the community level, we work with parents and traditional and religious leaders to shift negative gender and social norms affecting education outcomes, increasing support for girls’ education and active participation in school. FTVF Administrators at times work with the Nigerian Ministries of Education and school staff to improve the quality of teaching, strengthen supervisory capacity, and develop gender-transformative and inclusive policies.

Sadaqah Jariyah means a continuous, flowing and ongoing charity. It is one of the most rewarding acts we can do in our lives as the benefits of giving this type of charity can be reaped in this lifetime and long after we have passed.
Donate NowSadaqah Jariyah means a continuous, flowing and ongoing charity. It is one of the most rewarding acts we can do in our lives as the benefits of giving this type of charity can be reaped in this lifetime and long after we have passed.
Allah (swt) guarantees to record these continuous acts of charity in the following verse:
“Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have accounted for in a clear register.” (Qur’an, 36:12)
The following famous Hadith gives us the good news that even after our death, Sadaqah Jariyah continues to benefit us:
On the authority of Abu Hurairah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him’. (Muslim)
To put it simply, they both count as ‘Sadaqah’ (voluntary charity). However, ‘Sadaqah’ on its own will benefit the recipient on a single occasion and will count as one good deed for the giver. ‘Sadaqah Jariyah’ will benefit the recipients more than once and that good deed will continue rewarding you even after your death.
For example, giving someone something to eat, provision of medication and bills of the indisposed, purchase of mosquito nets, is a Sadaqah and will benefit that person in that moment whereas building a well where people can regularly draw water is a Sadaqah Jariyah and will benefit people for generations to come and in turn will continue benefiting you in this life and the next in sha’ Allah.

For us, we believe water is the best investment the world can make to improve health, empower women, enable access to education, increase family income and change lives.
Donate NowWe believe there’s a smart way to end the water crisis.
For us, we believe water is the best investment the world can make to improve health, empower women, enable access to education, increase family income and change lives. It is however sad that 771 million people still lack access to safe water.
At FTVF, we carry our periodic visits and inspections to localities where we think might not have water to see how we can end this crisis in these states in Nigeria.
Our solutions are working! Today more than 20 thousand families have been blessed by our clean, potable water, now they can turn on a tap or safely use a toilet because our donors like this project, they donated and we delivered to ensure they have access to safe water and sanitation at home.
